We had a very nice, relaxing weekend!
Friday - ran by the house before dinner and the drywall looks great! By the time we get back from Chicago, it should be time for our post-drywall meeting, we’ll get a rough close date (please say early August!!), and then it’s time for hardwoods and cabinetry!
Saturday - we enjoyed a lazy morning at home (no one woke up until 9am!) making breakfast, playing outside, and doing laundry until the pool we like to go to in Gardner opened at 1. We got there a few minutes before they opened and there was a huge line! Who knew! We of course had to go straight to the toddler pool…Lauren loves it. There are fountains, the water goes from ankle high down to about 1.5 feet, and there’s a big umbrella thing the kids can climb on and jump into the water. Lauren has always been iffy about swimming…she loves shallow water, but doesn’t want to go in deep water…well, apparently this summer is different! yea! We then asked her if she wanted to float on the lazy river…which she’s usually kind of “ok” with but doesn’t love and this time she LOVED it and LOVED getting splashed by the “waterfall” and “fountains”…although her favorite part was when daddy fell out of his intertube:) Then she saw the giant waterslides…2 enclosed and 1 open…and begged daddy to take her. They grabbed a tube and climbed the big tower and when they got to the top she was so excited (we were worried she’d freak, but not at all!) and they told Billy that Lauren was too short. =( So, they had to go back down and saw the height requirement was 48″ and Lauren is not even 38″ (she’ll be like 7 before she can ride them!). So sad…she came up and told me that she wasn’t tall enough and was so sad about it. Poor kid. Hopefully we can find somewhere to take her this summer that has kid-friendly water slides. Then we spent some time playing in the gradual entry part of the pool that goes up about neck high on Lauren with a playground in the middle and she LOVED it…loved jumping off the side into our arms (until we got in trouble by the lifeguards), getting swung around in the water, etc. I’m so glad she loves it this year, I knew she’d come around:). Then repeat all those things a zillion times and finally after 3 hours at 4pm, we drug her out of there to go home for a nap, but we’re pretty sure she’d stayed until they closed at 8 if we’d have let her! We have a pool in our new subdivision and it’s all she’s been talking about when we go to the house, asking if we can go, so it’s good to know I finally have my little water baby! Of course when we got home she was exhausted and went right down for her nap at 4:45, but Ethan/Ellysen and family were coming over at 6:30 for dinner and playing, so we had to wake her up, not that she minded. The kids all played so, so, so well together and had a great time. Ethan kept asking Lauren where all her toys were and she had to keep telling him “in storage”…but the kids loved playing outside on her trike, scooter, cozy coupe, and 4 wheeler until it was dark and then the doll house became the hit. Ellysen is now at the age she’s really interacting with the kids (13 months old) and Lauren was totally not used to it and I’m not sure she knew what to think…Ellysen kept taking what Lauren was playing with and coming up and tackling Lauren, hehe…Lauren will get used to it soon enough when her little brother is here! Late night, but fun!
Sunday - After the late night, we woke-up at 9am again and Lauren and I made muffins. However, she’d been asking for our weekly baking project today to be Rice Krispy Treats, so we still had to do that after nap:). We ran errands to get ready for Chicago and then came home for a nap…Lauren and I slept for 3 hours while Billy was bored so he finally woke us up at 5:30! Dinner, more outside play, more play with the doll house, and then bed. Nice relaxing day, we haven’t had one of those in awhile!
All the laundry is done, everything we need is bought, we got the luggage out of storage today, and the packing lists/itineraries/etc are made for Chicago later this week! Just need to lay out the clothes and pack and that’s it! We’re very excited!! I’m not sure what Lauren is more excited for…the plane, the train, the zoo, the aquarium, the “doll store”, the hotel, etc. Billy and I keep joking it’s not really a “vacation” as we’ll be so busy…but we sure are ready for being busy elsewhere and having fun for a few days!

We have drywall!! We went out to the new house tonight expecting to see a few rooms with drywall, instead the ENTIRE house was already drywalled…including ceilings! I have no idea how many guys it takes to drywall and do the initial mud/tape of the house, but they are fast! It was so fun to see it with all the walls up!! Pic’s to come soon!

Lauren had her routine 6 month appt with her allergist today and it went really well! He said she’s the best 3 year old patient he’s ever had (meaning she loves to do what he asks)! So, given that, he decided that she was mature enough to try an inhaler instead of her nebulizer! He also thinks that it’s safe to try her on regular milk…but not at the same time as the inhaler so that we are only changing one variable at a time. So, we left with a sample of the preventative inhaler and prescriptions for the spacer, preventative inhaler, and acute inhaler! Lauren really is growing up! Oh - and fully clothed with shoes and after having just downed a snack and entire juice, she weighed right at 33 pounds, so I assume closer to 32.5 and 38 inches, so probably 37.5! I was 32lbs and 38 inches at 4, so looks like she seems to be right on track to continue to mimic my growth chart.
In house news, all the drywall has been delivered and is organized/located into each room it goes in! Hopefully we see some of it on the walls tomorrow! For some reason, that seems like a big milestone to me!

It feels weird not having stuff we *have* to do on the weekends, like pack. But nice. I’ll try to enjoy it while I can! Long recap that was meant to be short:
- Saturday morning, we went to Jiggle Jam…it’s an annual kids fest of sorts…tons of live music by kids performers on 3 different stages, train rides, bounce stuff, the local children’s museum’s are there with various activities, food, fountains to play in, etc. We met-up with Ethan/Elly/Jerron/Megan, and Lauren’s boyfriend Brayden and his sister, Brecklyn, and mom and the kids had a blast. I think their favorite part was the Jazz Storytellers, very participatory with various instruments they’d hand out, etc. The kids got their booty’s shaking, it was cute:) But of course the train ride, bounce houses, and fountains were also a huge hit! It was very well run, people stationed at the stairs to help with strollers, kid friendly food like PB&J, etc. Definitely on our list of things to do each year! My favorite was listening to Lauren say “Jiggle Jam”…on the way there, she called it “Jiggle Jam”, “Giggle Jam” and my favorite “Jiggly Jam”.
- We got home around 2:30 and we all crashed until about 5 when Billy and I got up and separately ran some errands as we had friends (Ryan and Meggan) coming over for dinner at 7. Lauren finally got up at 6, and helped me make dinner…and then she enjoyed showing off running around acting goofy, showing them her “princess room that isn’t pink and yellow yet”, and much to Billy and I’s dismay, singing the “Jayhawk” song for Ryan/Meggan when she saw his Jayhawk shirt/hat. We really need to have ANOTHER talk with Miss Nicole at school! It was nice hanging out with them all night and watching UFC.
- Sunday we ran by the house as Billy hadn’t seen it with all of the insulation up, and then we took Lauren to “the farm” (Deana Rose, the free local kids farm, petting zoo, park, etc). Lauren asked Billy to go fishing, she’d never done it before and was really wanting to when we were there a few weeks ago. So, they fished while I took pic’s and Billy caught a few fish (catch and throw back) and then Lauren caught one all on her own!! We were so proud of her!! Of course she refused to touch the fish, but so does mommy (she eventually did work up the courage to “pet” the fish and would hand daddy the worms)! They then wanted me to catch a fish…urgh…I DETEST fishing…my grandpa used to make us fish, I caught 1 fish in my entire life and then my cousin dropped it in the lake trying to take it off of the hook….so guess what, Billy and Lauren catch fish left and right and did I catch even 1? Nope. Whatever. I’m not bitter. I just hate fishing (oops, shouldn’t say hate, Lauren would remind me that’s a bad word!). After that, we did the obligatory pony ride (seriously, the child finds a place to ride a horse every.single.weekend…we will definitely consider lessons in the future), played awhile, and then left and grabbed lunch and went home for our nap. Got up around 5, took Brody for a walk, grabbed some dinner, ran a few errands, went and played at a park, and then home for bed.
- Monday - we chose the floor plan of the new house very carefully so that rooms didn’t share walls…the only rooms that do is the guestroom between the baby’s room and the master…so when we have guests, that is the only time it should be a concern. So, we decided we’d go ahead and throw in some interior wall insulation on our own, before they start drywalling today. Billy spent the better part of the morning and afternoon doing that (ended up doing almost all the interior walls while he was at it), while Lauren and I hit the mall for some much needed shopping and girl time! We got our pretzel bites, then I found her another Kate & Mac bathing suit at Nordstrom’s…they are too stinkin adorable if you haven’t seen them…she has this one that she calls her “ballerina swimsuit” that she wore when playing in the fountains at Jiggle Jam on Saturday, and then I wanted to get her a 2 piece (she just had 2 one pieces and I prefer her to have 3 for the summer as they have water play days on Friday at school and then I still have 2 clean ones for the weekend)…and of course she had to have this one, as it’s her fav color, yellow.

Then we hit the Disney store. Lauren has been obsessed with all things Tinkerbell since I took her to Disney on Ice a month or two ago…so I knew we had to get something Tinkerbell. She immediately spied a plush Tinkerbell and latched on…to the tune of $20…ouch. I told her it was too expensive and she put it back. She’s such a sweet girl. But every time we’d pass it, she’d look longingly at it and it was crushing my heart. Finally, she picked out a $7.99 Tinkerbell beach towel (I told her we could get something). But as we walked by, she just looked at the doll and said “I wish I could have that someday, maybe for my birthday”. It was so sad and so sweet at the same time as she knows not to ask again after she’s been told no. So I finally said, “do you want that Tinkerbell?” and she shook her head yes with big wide eyes, and I said she could get it and she said “but it’s too expensive?” and I said, “that’s ok, mommy has some extra money” and she gave it a huge hug, and then gave me a huge hug and said “I love you so much mommy”. ahhh. After Disney, we went to the indoor mall play area and she found a little friend her age to play with and she never let go of Tinkerbell the whole time they were playing (or the rest of the day). Totally worth the $20. =)
After the mall, I took Lauren over to Beauty Brands to get some hair things I was out of and to get her hair cut. She *loves* getting her hair cut…but this was the first time they shampooed her! It was adorable with her little cape on, leaning back in the shampoo chair! And she was soooooo good for the stylist and her hair is now an adorable shoulder length, it makes her look older, but spunky. =)
We got home around 3 and took a nap (notice mommy napping each day too, totally not normal for me, but this pregnancy has wiped me out, plus we did a ton of walking each day prior to nap), and Billy got home around 5 and I got up, and we finally woke Lauren up about 6:15, had some dinner and went by the house. When we pulled up, there was a dad with 2 kids on a walk and were on our court, and Lauren yells, “that’s Kayla!” We get out and introduce ourselves, and sure enough, it was Kayla from Lauren’s class at school (and her little 1yo brother Nate)!! The kids had a blast running around playing while we talked to Kayla’s dad, Mike, (he used our same custom builder and had a good experience, yea!) and they just live a block or two away! Lauren was ssssooooo excited Kayla is going to be her neighbor! Kayla just turned 3 about 3 months ago, so the girls will go to kindergarten together too! (assuming they don’t send her private or catholic). yea! Her dad said our neighborhood is just absolutely full of kids their age and that we’re going to love it. We really can’t wait! 3 more months. We then ran in the house and Billy did a fab job on the insulation:)
And now it’s back to work. But a few short weeks and then we’re off to Chicago!!

- The insulation is done in our house! Looks like we are on schedule to start drywall on Tuesday! It was cool to see all the blown-in insulation (they put stuff up that looked like interfacing on the walls and then blew into the insulation behind that)…so it kind of looks like we have walls…but I can’t wait to see it with walls next week! Lauren gets drug out there with us most every night (which is fun with me carrying her up/down temp stairs in heels pregnant!haha) and tonight she requested to go see “her bathtub”…I assumed we were going to her bathroom, but instead she ran straight into the master bedroom and then to the master bath to see the jetted tub! =) Makes sense since we always bathed her in our master bath in our old house (bigger tub, more fun, and more room for us to hang out in there with her). I assume we will likely still use the master bath in the new house too, so she’s probably right!
- Lauren had trike-a-thon day at school today (proceeds to St. Judes) and I sent her to school in a shirt, blouse, matching headband, and fancy white leather sandals with ankle straps…she looked adorable…but maybe not too practical?
It was cute seeing all of their trikes, bikes, and scooters lined up in the lobby/common area waiting for pick-up!
- I had my monthly girls dinner tonight with 2 of my BFF’s, so much fun and a much needed night out for mommy. =) Meanwhile, Billy took Lauren on a “daddy/daughter date night” to TRex…she hadn’t been in 6 months or so and loved it (I was nervous she’d be scared as she’s developed some new fears in the last few months, namely of bugs!). And insisted on taking her baby “Winnie” with them. Winnie is the name of her main daycare teacher’s baby and is now the name of 1 of her baby dolls. Daddy finally conceded, and on the way, she also snuck out a blanket for Winnie and a princess book
- Lauren has a love affair with Skittles. We’re not big on limiting sugar, we just teach everything in moderation as we do for ourselves. On Monday after school, she asked me to go to the gas station to get Skittles. I told her no. There were some tears, and I told her if she could get 3 star days for 2 days in a row, we’d get Skittles (she’s had some listening issues lately at school and has been getting more 2 star days than 3…we assume it’s due to the changes with moving, the baby, and her fav teacher at school leaving…she’s been fine at home, so hopefully it settles down at school soon). Of course you know she had 3 star days Tuesday and Wednesday! So, Wednesday we went and got Skittles. Then yesterday and today, 2 star days. Go figure. Darn kid! Each day, we ask her what her favorite part of the day was and she names her favorite thing she did that day. So, I asked her on the way home from school what her favorite part of the day was and she said “when we go to the gas station and get Skittles” and gave me the biggest grin! She’s too smart for her own good! I just laughed and told her nice try!
- Pregnancy is going fine (not as much time to think about it as there was with Lauren!). I’m feeling really good, not too big, but finally definitely look pregnant! I’ll take a new belly pic tomorrow…big growth from 20-24 weeks! I really have no complaints…a bit of swelling from the warmer weather, but that’s to be expected, I’ve been increasing water, not doing too good at reducing sodium, and upping my activity. I’m getting back into the gym and it feels good. Wonder what the baby thinks when I’m running?
Lauren is very interested in the baby (when talking to me, she refers to him as “your baby”) and talks about him all of the time (and fyi, there are boy and girl babies that are in her tummy), but she isn’t too interested in feeling him move…if you ask her if she wants to feel, she’ll put her hand on my belly for 2 seconds and then say ooohhh, feel my baby! And puts your hand on her belly and says “oh, did you feel that?”
- Lots of plans for Memorial Day weekend, should be fun! Sounds like we’ll have beautiful weather!

I finally found out why the computer that has Picassa on it (what I use to house our pictures) wasn’t “running” yet. Billy was creating my Mother’s Day gift on it and didn’t want me finding it! The printing and shipping was really delayed, so I just got it a few days ago, but he gave me a wonderful photo album he had printed of Lauren’s first 3.5 years! We haven’t ever printed pics and have really wanted to…it was so sweet of him to do it! It’s full of some of our favorite Lauren pics and tons of pics of her with family and friends. So sweet:). Anyway, the computer *was* up and running and I got the go ahead to go downstairs and upload pics finally! There are still a 100 or more pics from May on the camera that I will pull off and finish up tonight, but for the most part, everything is on the gallery! Easter (not many since it was moving weekend!), more birthday parties than I can remember, and of course the new house! Here are a few of the house, pre-electrical/plumbing, and you can find the rest in the gallery. And of course, some of Lauren:).

We had lots of family time this weekend and it was really nice! Lauren *loves* to stay busy and after each thing we do, asks what is next! No rest for the weary!
Friday - Just our normal out to dinner and then ran by the house. We noticed everything was all cleaned up (no trash, leftover pipe parts and electrical wiring, etc) and we received an email from our construction manager that night that we have our inspections early this week (electrical, plumbing, whatever else) and then I assume we’ll be blowing insulation by the end of the week to stay on target to be drywalling by Monday! It seems to be going so fast!
Saturday - We took Brody to the vet for routine shots and then to the farmer’s market. It was a little chilly, so we didn’t stay long, just long enough for Lauren to drag daddy out to dance with her to the band that was playing:). Women folk music…think Indigo Girls…hehe. Then Billy took a bunch of guys over to the new house to do some network wiring (you know, specific fancyschmancy computer guy stuff that our house *has to have*) while Lauren and I went to Merriam’s Turkey Creek Festival. It’s in our very favorite park in the city, Antioch Park (Johnson County’s oldest park, where we had her professional pics taken last October) and it was a very very nice festival. Everything was free! Free pony rides, train rides, face painting, bounce houses, paddle boats, etc. Crazy. We spent $12 total and that was for a hot dog we split, a diet coke, an ear of roasted corn (Lauren devoured the entire thing in minutes by herself, the girl loves corn!), and 2 huge things of cotton candy (Lauren and mommy both have a weakness for cotton candy!). We spent a few hours there and had a blast. I can’t wait to go again next year, but with our boys too! Lauren and I got home and crashed and then we just hung out as a family the rest of the night and played outside a lot.
Sunday - Finally managed to get to the grocery store and then played outside the rest of the morning. Lauren absolutely loves to bake and cook and is forever asking me to make muffins, cupcakes, cookies, brownies, etc. So, her and and I have a new “thing” where each week she gets to pick something to bake and we bake together on Sunday. This week she chose “pinkalicious” cupcakes. Any of you with little girls undoubtedly know the “Pinkalicious” book series and Lauren reads that book pretty much every night before bed with daddy (she reads and then he reads)…she has the thing pretty much memorized and recites it about word for word (and we’ve only had the book for a few weeks!)…our favorite part is when she talks about “Allison on the swings and how she couldn’t see me in the pink peonies”…the way she clearly says “pink peonies” is just too cute! Anyway, Lauren selected “rainbow” cake mix (white cake mix with candy sprinkles inside basically) and then we got white frosting and died it pink and she topped them with pink sprinkles…we each had one and then sent the other 21 to school with Lauren to share with her friends (which is what we usually do…she loves to share what she’s made with them and we love having the sweets out of our house!). Just to brag on Lauren for a minute, she’s doing so good with the baking…I usually just buy box stuff as it’s easier baking with a 3 year old even though I usually do from scratch when it’s just me. She studies the back of the box, tells me exactly what we need, what the steps are, and usually measures it all out and pours it all in herself. She is a complete expert at cracking eggs. I don’t even have her do it in a separate bowl anymore! I’m sure this is also helping in a different way than just with books in learning to read. She knows all the sounds to her letters and is starting to sound out some words. She’s known how to spell her own name, daddy’s name, and a few others forever…but it’s fun watching her add words to her repertoire. with her love of books and learning, she’ll be reading before kindergarten I imagine! After nap, we ran by the new house again for Billy to finish up a few things and Lauren and I went and played at the park.
Such a fun weekend! This weekend we have Jiggle Jam at Crown Center, so more bounce houses, music, and cotton candy I’m sure! It’s actually kind of nice break in renting and not having a bunch of yard work and home projects to do on the weekends! =)

I had my 23 week dr. appt this morning. When I had my 18 week sono and appt, the appt was with a different dr due to my dr. having some scheduling issues (delivering a baby or something) and he was the one that sent us on to the perinatologist for the level 2 sono (after he said sometimes he does and we said we’d like to do it). The first thing my dr. said when she came in the room is “your baby is fine”, lol. She has 3 boys (ages 5 to 1) and she said 2 of them had EIF’s…one of them went away, the other didn’t, and they’re both fine. She said she’s never seen a sole marker of EIF and then downs in the baby. She said she never even sends people on to the peri for a level 2 after seeing just the EIF (there would have to be other markers and our baby has none)…she said it’s never anything, and to not read anything on the internet anymore. And my dr. said that the peri is very straight forward and will tell you if there’s something to worry about and since she told us not to worry, we should believe her! So I guess I won’t even give it another thought!
I am up 12 pounds and she said that is great, and I’m doing much better than last time (last time at 20 weeks I was up 15lbs, not sure at 23 weeks, but likely 18lbs or more). She said I am on track to stay around 25 pounds! woohoo! That’s good to hear considering the bridesmaids dress I’ll be wearing a month after the baby is due! =) She said the baby is measuring about 4 days ahead on yesterday’s sono, similar to the one at 18 weeks (I think he was about 8 days ahead then maybe). My blood pressure was good at 114/66. My next appt is in 4 weeks and we’ll have another sono (this will be #4!) to check to see if my placenta has moved up yet, followed by my dr. appt, followed by the 1 hour glucose test to check for gestational diabetes (I didn’t have it with Lauren). Finally, she said with 2nd babies, as long as I’m dilated to a 1 or so, she’s willing to induce anytime at 39 weeks or later, and will let me go up to 41 weeks before we have to induce…and she usually induces on Tuesdays/Fridays. The Friday after my due date is 9/11, so we’ll probably avoid that day! We’ll see how I feel by that point, but likely we’d either induce 9/8 (dads birthday) or 9/15 (moms birthday)! I guess *if* we are in the new house by then and I’m making progress, I might get desperate and let her induce me at 39 weeks, so either 9/1 or 9/4…I guess we’ll see in 3.5 more months!

23 weeks today! During my normal sono at 18 weeks, they they saw a “spot” or “nodule” on the baby’s heart, so today I had my Level II sono to get a better look by specialists. The perinatologist saw the spot on the heart, called it a calcification. She didn’t see any signs of a heart defect nor did she see any other signs of downs (the spot can be one). We had declined all testing, so we can’t figure that into it. Based on my age (32), my risk of the baby having downs is 1 in 508. Because the baby has this spot on his heart, coupled with my age, the risk is now 1 in 254. So it basically took it from a risk of 0.2% to 0.4%. She offered us the option of amnio (basically because she had to present all of our options) and we declined (which she seemed to agree with). She said that on our list of “worries” this should be at the very bottom, the baby looks otherwise healthy based on the sono. She said they see the spot in 2-3% of all sono’s they do and it usually ends up meaning nothing. I’m pretty sure I feel ok about it all, but it’ll be in the back of my mind. I have an appointment with my regular obgyn tomorrow, so we’ll see what she has to say. He’s still sitting breach, stubborn baby! We left with another handful of pictures and it’s definitely still a boy!
In house news, the plumbing and electrical is all in (roughed in for sinks, fridge, toilets, showers/tubs, outlets, and lights)! The “cable guy” is starting today on the cable outlets, phone outlet, whole house audio, and surround sound. I’m not sure what’s after that, but we’re scheduled to start drywall on 5/25, so just shy of 2 weeks away!!
Lauren had her spring gymnastics program on Saturday and it was adorable. She did much better when she didn’t know where grammy, daddy, and I were standing! When she did, she was more concerned with smiling, waving, and blowing kisses! She’s doing so great, especially on her vaults, bars, and cartwheels…very cool to watch a 3 year old do what she does!
We booked our airline tickets and hotel room last week for 4 days in Chicago in June! We have never taken a vacation just being the 3 of us, so we wanted to do one before the baby comes. Lauren is through the moon excited and has gotten very good at saying “Chicago”…she’s looking forward to the zoo, the aquarium, American Girl Place, shopping, pool, beach, fireworks, etc. Billy and I are really excited to take a vacation, our first one since Key West in November and we’ve had a really busy time since then with the new house, selling the old house, packing/moving, pregnancy, and busy season for me at work. It’s a welcome treat for all of us before the craziness starts again with packing/moving and the new baby!

Billy and I had 2 meetings for the house today…one where we chose the wood blinds that we’re putting throughout the house. That was about a 10 minute meeting and easy since I already knew what we wanted. The second one was with what I’ll call our “wiring guy”…he does the alarm system, the network stuff, the surround sound, and the whole house audio system. And since that is Billy’s pet area, we all know meeting wasn’t cheap!!
It was so cool to see the progress today though…the plumber started on Monday and is almost done, you can see white plumbing running everywhere and the bathtubs are in! The garage doors went in today! The electrician starts tomorrow and will be finished on Monday and then the “wiring guy” starts on Tuesday! It’s crazy how quick it is seeming to go! Or are we just so busy with other things (you know, work, activities, parties, etc) that it is seeming to go quick? And since the summer’s always fly by, hopefully we’re packing to move (again) before we know it!
I promise to post pics soon!
